Most people think this work looks terrible creature when they saw it first time, but if you change your perspective, you could feel sorry for this ugly little creatures. This art work looks like human mother and child such as having hand, skins and hair on the head also it becomes intelligent creatures like human but i think this creature doesn't want to be like this. nowaday the scientists always operate genetic engeneering without considering the potential consequences. Fortunately this art work is not real things but it can be actualize soon. I think Patricia piccinini want to announce risk about science experiment.
This art work looks like ugly little creature sexually harassing a human baby. The baby simbolises our next generation which implies our irreponsible actions could results in the next generation suffering. humans always had been treating themselves as the superior creature over the others but this work shows how the distinctions between the other creatures and human beings could disppear by the contemporary on going actions of scientists.
In summary, if the scientist keep on doing this actions then the humen can be ruined by themselves. we need to be more carefully about genetic experiments.
I completely agree with this blog! I too think that Piccinini's main motive is to shock. At this, she really succeeds! She is trying to reveal what a world where genetic engineering is superior could look like. The fact that she has arranged her creatures in such a humanly "mother and child" pose, reveals that her fear of mutation through science (a primary ideological concern of the enlightenment), could soon not only be applicable to just animals of the furry kind but also us, humans. The mother and child pose could also be Piccinini's reference to religion, a complete contradiction to the rational of science, perhaps her suggestion of a solution to the further self destruction of humankind.
